Wall Decoration without the Use of Paint

Sometimes, you move to a place where you do not find it any possibility to paint the walls due to any reason. Still, customizing the walls remains a requirement, and you can’t just ignore it. So, is there any good alternate to decorate the walls without painting them? Well, there certainly is. It is basically about covering a part of the wall with the fabrics in such a way that it would act like a wall decoration. Let’s discuss it in a step-by-step guide.

First you need to take the measurement of wall in terms of height, from ceiling to the floor. Use an inch-measuring strip to take this measurement.

To pick the pattern of fabrics you want to use, search online stores or a local fabric store in your area. The better option when it comes to type of fabrics is Upholstery weight fabric because it is neither too heavy nor too lighter. The major disadvantage of picking the heavier fabrics is that they are hard to use due to their weights aside from being expensive.

Another thing to keep in mind is that replacing the fabrics may be easier than painting, but it is very expensive too. So, pick your colors wisely. It is recommended to select the fabric based on design theme and color of furniture placed in the room.

It would be an understatement to say that you need to keep wall measurement in mind while purchasing the fabrics. You surely need to keep this measurement in mind but think about the reduction of the size of fabric when its edges will be cut and sewn. So, if you are not really sure about the size, or you are confused about addition of strips to allow the design variation to come into play, you might need to ask from an expert in sewing.

If you want to use more than one fabric for wall decoration, make sure that each one is of the same size. Inconsistency and difference in size would result in more seams. That will really not help in design perspective. If the fabric needs to be cut according to your requirements, make sure that the person cutting that fabric is an expert in cutting straight.

Don’t for get to purchase the upholstery thread of the same color as that of fabric. Also buy some high quality sewing needles which would handle the thickness of cloth.

To make one large panel, pin the pieces together and make sure that edges are perfectly upon edges. After sewing, trim the uneven sides. The panel is going to be heavier, so make sure that sewing is strong enough to hold both attached fabrics.

For the end that isn’t lined up after sewing the cloth, trim it.

The panel should be ready to attach with the wall. Now you would need wall screws and two straight wooden strips of fabric width size. Pass screws through the fabric into the panels on both sides. Make sure that there is a gap of few inches between every two screws on the fabric end attached with the strip. The nails would be adequately appearing on the side of the strip that has to face the wall. Attach one strip along the border of ceiling and further tighten the screws to make sure that panel is attached from the top. Hold second strip and stretch it down to the floor border and repeat the process of attaching the strip.
